(Vietsing24h) Someone has ever said that “Your writing shows your personality” (means that they way you write expresses your character most obviously.) For me, this concept is thoroughly precise because after nearly ten years teaching, I have various chances to approach many future generations and read an enormous number of essays written by my beloved students, I realize that writing papers allow me grasp their personalities. So many students, so many characters, but they all have characters in common: perseverance and thirst for knowledge.
Let me tell you about Ky at first!
Ky was extremely famous for his chicken scratch. To imagine his incredibly messy handwriting, you know I was solely able to check his essays when I was in the pink of health. By contrast, if one day I felt exhausted, his handwriting made me have eyestrain at once, so there were no any other solutions, I had to put it down and read it on the next day. Occasionally, when I saw his super chicken scratch, my eyes had to be very very close the screen of Ipad with my mouth muttering, and of course a rewriting was unavoidable.
In addition, his logical thinking was quite ridiculous and leapfrogging. While most other students were big fans of happy ending stories, Ky constantly created a thriller. He euphorically said to me that his strength was to write stories about adventures to haunted houses. Typically, at the end of his stories, one of adventurers is captured by ghosts and becomes an evil afterwards. 8 in 10 stories made up by Ky have the same “tedious” ending: “I go home, I am proud of myself because I have done a good job”
For me, there is no need to talk about how both of us had made attempts to improve handwriting and essay writing skills. Actually, everything was like a fight against his carelessness; Nevertheless, this is a student I strongly believe in his ability to successfully overcome obstacles. His brain is considered a blotting paper that can absorb my conveyance of knowledge rapidly and remain knowledge for a very long time.
Kelvin – The boy with gorgeous eyes.
The first time I saw Kelvin, I thought he was a rascals and not-very-clever student, but I actually made a big mistake. This boy is not hard-headed, by contrast, he is incredibly polite, terribly scared of ghost and extremely clever. I will tell you about his fear of ghosts in another time, today, I would like to mention stories regarding to his writings.
Perhaps, the most frequent messages I received from Kelvin was asking for another topic because: “I have no ideas for this topic”. Sometimes, I could not restrain my anger and had to require him to rack his brain trying to figure out the writing.
In the first period, Kevil’s writings were so “bland” that I felt as if I was digesting scientific reports. Sometimes, his story was very short and simple but sometimes, it can be as long as “sớ táo quân” (means the report of The Kitchen God containing all incidents happened in the whole year). It took me quite a long time to help him to transform in to flowery writing. I had to patiently instructed him the way to add descriptive paragraphs into his writings. As a consequence, Kevil got into the habit of writing: “white clouds drifted lazily in the sky. The bright sun shone its golden yellow rays everywhere. Birds were singing merrily. All of his compositions have these landscape ideas in common. Even though, he described a night landscape, the main character in his writing goes astray to a haunted house which makes him terribly frightened. However, such a dark view still emerges birdsongs, blossoming flowers, especially white clouds in the blue sky. After laughing like crazy, I gave him “an unforgettable lecture”. After all, Kevil was also ready!
Công Cổng Cồng Công, Cong - one of my most beloved student.
A lanky boy but as quick as a lighting, Cong runs as if his legs are attached a spring. Cong is an expert in creating games for girls, and solely super into kid games. This little boy was not good at English and did not have any passion for English subject. This was the reason almost all his writings were unacceptably tasteless and his writing style was immersed into contemporary romantic novels. While Ky and Kevil had to tear their hair out in terms of landscape description, Cong wrote lengthily without core content appearing in the body of composition. For me, I find teaching essay writing most difficult because writings goes with life skills and practical knowledge of each student. In Cong’s case, I spent a great deal of time explaining how to write good compositions to him. On a nice day, I surprisingly realized that his writing style became more graceful. Eventually, the toughest case was ready!
Honestly, I find teaching writing skills tricky, but I love it most. “Teaching with my whole heart” is my first teaching motto because if we do not enthuse over conveying knowledge to students, how come we require them to study industriously.
